As my guest blogger, Mercedes stressed, last week, we are into our ‘oh, my….crazy busy’ time of our year, so she is back to trying to keep it all together for our wonderful clients around the country! I totally agree with her three picks last week, BTW.
After a quick family vacation (that of course included my viewing two costume/fashion exhibits at my FAVORITE F.I.T. Museum and then a subway ride to The Brooklyn Museum to see the FABULOUS Pierre Cardin “Future Fashion” retrospective, I am so incredibly inspired!
And thankfully MOST of the dance costumes on this week’s “Dancing with the Stars” were also inspiring. I LOVE when the costumers ‘get it right’!
According to my personal scoring, Lauren and Gleb’s Paso Doble outfits, along with Sean and Lindsay’s Tango duds (Sean was very dapper, unlike this eye-popping limey-Latin shirt from last week), got my highest marks for couple costuming. Sailor and Val’s Rumba outfits, and Mary (her costume ‘represented ‘well for an older woman) and Brandon’s Cha Cha costumes were next on my ‘best couple costumes’ list. “Best Pop of Color” goes to James with his peach lining and peach sox – to match Emma’s Cha Cha costume.
All of these couple’s costumes were flattering, classy and very pleasing to the eye. Even though I enjoyed the Prince music, I did NOT enjoy Karomo and Jenna’s Quick Step togs…a cummerbund OVER a suit jacket – yikes! This was disturbing to me and added a ‘trashy’ look to his ensemble. Jenna’s costume didn’t raise the bar on this duo’s costuming.
Minnesota’s own, Alan, was so boring next to a fluffy confectionary of a Viennese Waltz costume worn by his partner Hannah. Yawn…their costumes did not impress.
My least favorite costumes were worn by Kel and Witney for their Samba. I did not care for Kel’s plastic looking reptile printed suit. It gave me the ‘willies’! Witney’s black costume tried to be ‘edgy’, worn with a simple bra (as in the underwear variety) and with horizontal chainette fringe to give a ‘ripped’ look. Trashy and ‘clubby’ describe what I saw.
I have to say something nice about Lamar….don’t I? Well, he wore a very classy shirt and pant. An outfit that most any ballroom male dance could wear (although maybe not in florescent green) and I always love matching rhinestones that adorn men’s costuming. Peta did not wear a Salsa costume that any ballroom female dancer could wear, but she did look lovely!
All the other dancers and ‘stars’ rated ‘OK’ to me. Of course the worst dancers were not sent home, but REMEMBER, this IS a popularity contest, NOT a dance contest. Keep saying this over and over again, and you will be OK!
What will next week bring us?
