I enjoyed this 23rd season of “Dancing with the Stars”, did you? At the start of every season I’m unfamiliar and unimpressed with the cast lineup. And it seems that every season, I grow to know and love most of the ‘Stars’ (well, nearly all) and truly enjoy hearing their stories and watching their actions on and off the dance floor.
As I write this article, we have seen 9 weeks of “Dancing with the Stars” Season 21, with just the semi-final and finale episodes remaining. If you have been following my ‘Costume Critique’ blog each week, you have read about which costumes I have loved and which I’ve hated.Read More
It has been a fun season filled with many costumes to critique! There have been stunningly beautiful and boringly bad but, all in all, most of the costuming has been fun and fabulous. Unfortunately the finale’s opening routine, presented by the pros, was disappointing. The men donned traditional white tail suits and the majority of the ladies were wearing one-of-a-kind, miscellaneous street apparel. However, there was a group of women wearing black and white gowns, which made the whole look very unimpressive and not cohesive. I was not a fan!Read More
This week of Quarter Finals at “Dancing with the Stars” was named ‘Showstopper Week’ as this was the theme of the second dance routine by the couples. Their inspiration was iconic showstopper dance routines from stage and screen.Read More
Icon Week at “Dancing With the Stars”, with Carlos and Witney starting off the competition with a Salsa. I really liked their costumes, as they were a little different from what we have been seeing this season. And let’s face it, with the daunting job of costuming scores of dancers every week, we are bound to see some repeat looks. Carlos’ shirt was ‘cut down to there’, but it was loose – showing a different silhouette. The scattered rhinestones gave it a real ‘costume’ look – and I mean this in a good way. I loved Witney’s pink trimmed with orange, costume – the orange horsehair braid creating the stiffness on both hems of her back-ruffle skirt. The rhinestone-trimmed pink lacey-flowered bra-top and yoke/waistband area of her skirt was youthful and cute. The nude areas on her yoke/waistband added extra interest by creating more diagonal lines, rather than a simple horizontal line.Read More
This week’s “Dancing with the Stars” episode started out with a frightfully presented ‘Monster Mash’ routine with all the Stars and Pros, and was an homage to Halloween Night.Read More
It was “Famous Dances Night” on Dancing with the Stars this week! I confess: I LOVE to watch dance and I have watched each and every iconic dance that was portrayed this week. I have watched all the classic movie musicals, all the current movie musicals and also many dance presentations during the awards shows, not to mention as many Broadway musicals as I can manage to get to. So yes, I had in my mind, all the original costumes that were worn for each of these iconic dance performances.
There were many outstanding dance performances this week, but unfortunately many of the recreated dance costumes were very lack luster. In spite of all the 10’s awarded for dancing, I gave no 10’s for costuming. My highest score was a 9 to Alek and Lindsay for their Elvis inspired costumes, and a 9 for Sharna’s green disco dress.Read More
“The (dreaded) Switch Up” happened this week, on ‘Dancing with the Stars’, with the celebrities having to learn their dances with new Pros, which was stressful for all! Some were very successful and others were not. Many 10’s were given out this week for excellent dancing and I have also scored several costumes with a 10, including guest judge, Maksim in his VERY DAPPER suit!Read More
