Totino-Grace HS Show choir director, Terry Voss is presenting his last hurrah before retiring after this season. His show choir performance/show this season will reflect on his last 28 years as the director for Totino-Grace’s show choirs.
Satin Stitches has created many, many costumes for Terry and his show choir over the last two decades. We were asked to reprise one of his (and my) favorite Totino-Grace show choir dresses that Satin Stitches originally created in 2003.
The inspiration for this dress design was an iconic Versace dress worn by Beyoncé on the cover of Vogue. Back in 2003, we modified the style to better suit high school aged performers and we created the dress in a vibrant purple.
For this season, we re-envisioned the style in classic black. We created the new dresses with glitter slinky instead of satin and sheer mesh instead of chiffon. The original dresses were ‘cut to measurements’ and included a fitting. With our CAD patternmaking and cutting system, we have so many sizes available along with our generic Sizing Samples to cut sizes from XS to 6X, all available in Short, Medium and Long torso lengths. So no hand-cutting with fittings this year, but computerized cutting, pulling from our full range of sizes.
We are never shocked when our clients make changes to the costumes that we have delivered, as we know that occationally when the costumes are seen on stage, the addition of accessories or trim can enhance the designs. You can see that the talented booster parents of Totino-Grace decided to add a silver trim to highlight the bodice ribbon trim. We also create and ship totally unembellished costumes and our clients add their own appliques, rhinestones and other trims. We are happy to work with our clients this way – especially if our clients have talented booster support for cost savings for the team.
